Freshmart Neepawa is seeking a reliable and hardworking Building Maintenance Helper to join our facilities team. Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager or Store Manager, the incumbent will assist in the upkeep, repair, and preventive maintenance of all aspects of the store building, equipment, and grounds. This is a hands-on, physical role requiring a good work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety.
Duties
General Building Maintenance
- Inspect store structure and complete minor repairs, painting, lighting replacement, and deficiency reporting.
- Assist with basic plumbing/electrical tasks and report leaks, outlet issues, or other concerns.
- Clean HVAC filters/vents, monitor refrigeration units, and assist technicians as needed.
- Maintain exterior areas, including snow removal, landscaping, waste disposal, and safe walkways.
- Assemble, move, and maintain store fixtures, carts, tools, equipment, and renovation setups.
- Follow safety policies, complete hazard checks, maintain clean work areas, attend training, and use PPE.
- Maintain a maintenance log of completed tasks, parts used, and upcoming scheduled maintenance.
- Assist in receiving and inventorying maintenance supplies and materials.
- Collaborate with all store departments to minimize disruption during maintenance activities.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma preferred.
- Previous experience in building maintenance, construction, or a related trade is an asset.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, or HVAC is an advantage.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
